Bamboo CopTer

Shunsuke Umiyama's playful mobile is based on the taketombo, the bamboo copter toy invented in China thousands of years ago, and played with by millions of kids in Japan.

The simple wooden toy catapults into the air simply by spinning the shaft between your hands. In this mobile, each 'copter' generates a soft current that affects the others, creating a soothing, calming effect that appears to be in slow motion. Check out the video, which was taken in real time.

Made in Japan by hand by skilled craftsmen. Sizes and shapes of the 'copters' may vary.
